UNESCO world heritage sites in Iran

UNESCO world heritage sites in Iran are the main attractions many tourists are eager to visit due to their importance. According to statistics provided by UNESCO, Iran is one of the 7 countries with the highest number of entries in the UNESCO. UNESCO world heritage site registered twenty four site in Iran that two of them are natural and the others are cultural. Iran joined this UNESCO world heritage site three years after the creation.

The first sites that UNESCO world heritage site registered in Iran was Choghazanbil in 1979. Persepolis and Naghsh e-Jahan square was the other sites that UNESCO registered. After the massive earthquake of Bam the historical city was in the list of endangered heritage. But as a result of constant repairs it is now back in the list of UNESCO. Certainly there are many other sites in Iran that are worthy to be in the list. Recently there are some other sites as suggestions. For instance Necropolis, Tagh e- Bostan, Masuleh village, Historical city of Ekbatana etc.

UNESCO world heritage is the name of an international treaty in the world since 16th November 1972. The purpose of this treaty is to preserve the historical, natural and cultural heritage of civilizations around the world.
