Sassanid Archeological Landscape of Fars Region

Sassanid Archeological Landscape of Fars Region that contains eight ancient sites in three ancient areas, Firoozabad, Bishapoor, and Sarvestan. Their  registeration in UNESCO was at 2018. Monuments to these archeological sites include Bishapur, Shapur Cave, Sarvestan Palace, Ardashir Khwarrah and Palace of Ardashir. Also, Qal-eh Dokhtar, Ahura Mazda and Ardashir Historical Landmark, and The Role of Victory of the Sassanid are the others.

Firoozabad

In short, Firoozabad is the most magnificent Sassanian monument. Firoozabad,s history goes back to the last years of Parthian Rules. It,s previous name was Ardashir Khwarrah. In Sassanid Era, Firoozabad was one of the five administrative districts of Fars province. Qal-eh Dokhtar is a castle that Ardashir made it on a mountain slope. This castle is one of the oldest buildings with a dome in the world. The usage of this strong and quite big fortress is to protect the capital of Sassanid. It also dominates the whole region.

In Ardashir Investiture relief, Ahuramazda and Ardashir atand opposite each other. And Ahuramazda, while giving Ardashir the King Rind, appoints him to the King. Another relief is The Role of Victory of the Sassanid. They beautifully carved the triumphant battle of Ardashir over the last Parthian king, Ardavan V. Ardashir Khwarrah is an ancient site in the city of Firoozabad. Ardashir, the king of Sassanid dynasty, built this city in a roundabout way. The Goor city is the first circular city in Iran and also one of the first circular cities in the world. The last site in firoozabad is Palace of Ardashir. It is 1800 years old. Some archaeologists believe that is building was not a Palace, rather, it was one of the important fire temples of that time.

Bishapur

Two sites of Sassanid Archeological Landscape of Fars is in Kazeroon city. Bishapur was a city of special design and engineering of its time. Bishapur is a treasure trove of valuable Sassanid artifacts such as Anahita Temple. Shapur Cave is a cave with a masterpiece of ancient Iranian carving. Shapur Cave is not only a natural attraction, but also Shapur Sculpture has a historical element to it.

Sarvestan

At the end, The Sarvestan Palace is a manifestation of Sassanian architecture. It has the oldest brick dome in Iran.
