Shazdeh garden of Mahan

Shazdeh garden of Mahan is one of the sites registered in UNESCO as a model of Persian gardens. Its location is in Mahan a city near Kerman. This historical garden belongs to late Qajar era. The garden covers a large space and devides into two section. It has a pavilion or Iranian Koushk in the middle. The beautiful palace has two stories. The facade of garden also has a distingushly architectural decoration. But probably the most prominet part of garden is the beautiful yard with old and stout trees. Aside from green trees across the garden it is the long pool along the lengthy garden. As a result of huge trees, pool and fountains the garden has a fresh atmosphere. Making it like a precious emerald in the middle of desert.

Architecture

Shazde Garden is a sample of Iranian gardens strutured like a stairway. It is actually the only one still standing. The other garden such as this one was in Shiraz but now it is destroyed. Only some old pictures show us how this type of garden in Shiraz looked like. The main feature that catch the eye of visitors is the palatial facade. It has two stories. So the top story of it had rooms that people could live in. Probably this was a place for officials of king or governer. It also has rooms for hosting guests. The other parts of the palace is along the walls of garden. The glorious garden and its pavilion also has a main hall and a bath-house.

History

Muhammad Hasan Khan Iravani the governer of Kerman at the time ordered to build the garden. But construction of the pavilion completed in the time of Next governer. He was Abdul Hamid Miraz Hasan oldoleh. Probably the garden and its pavilion completed in 1891. It was during eleven years of the governer rulled Kerman.

Shazdeh garden of Mahan became a UNESCO world heritage site in 2011. It is among nine Persian gardens that are in UNESCO world heritage sites list.
